CMS 4410 Project 3: Interviews

You will complete interviews that will become part of the "Creative Energy" video showcase of the CMS program and its students. Before beginning the shoot, record your entire tape black (with the lens cap on), so that the timecode does not break.

You will work in teams of four, using the XL1S, tripod, lav mic, and lighting kit. The camera should be set on full manual controls. Each member of the team will take turns in each of the following roles:

  1. director/camera operator
  2. interviewee
  3. interviewer
  4. PA/gaffer/key grip

Your grade for the project will be based primarily on the quality of the interview you record in your role as director. In addition, the email reports of your team members about your professionalism and teamwork will be a factor.

Your choice of setting is crucial. The background should be neither boring nor distracting. Light and noise levels will be key factors in your choice of time and place.

All of the interview should be shot with a static camera, and most of it should be shot in close up. You should change the camera setup at least once during the shoot. As discussed in class, the easiest way to do this is to zoom in or out while the interviewer is asking a question. Make sure not to lose focus in the process.

Interview Questions

The questions for the interview will be identified in class and posted here at a later date.

Email Report
