Digital Video Production
This course probably will be offered again during the Fall 2007 semester. Details on this syllabus (and particularly on the Schedule page) will change throughout the semester. Check the online syllabus regularly to make sure that you have the most current information.
Required texts and media
All texts are available at the CSU Campus Store, though you may be able to find cheaper copies online. (Make sure you get the required editions.) Clicking the ISBN numbers below will take you to the relevant screen at Amazon.com.
Shaner, Peter and Gerald Everett Jones. Real World Digital Video. 2nd edition. Berkeley, CA: Peachpit Press, 2003. ISBN: 0321238338.
Three 60-minute miniDV tapes. Do not buy Sony brand tapes, since they can gum up the heads of non-Sony cameras.
One DVD-R disk. (Note: Do not buy DVD+R, since this format does not work in the Macintoshes.)
Regent's Guide to Understanding Copyright and Educational Fair Use <http://www.usg.edu/admin/legal/copyright/>
Movies, photocopies, and Web sites (announced in class and linked from the schedule) may be assigned throughout the semester.
Required out-of-class attendance
Because of the nature of this class and its subject matter, you occasionally will be required to attend meetings and participate in shoots that take place outside of our regularly scheduled class times. I will try to give you as much flexibility and lead time in this scheduling as possible, but your participation in these events is not optional.
