Exam 1

The exam will combine objective and essay questions.

The objective test will be given in class on the date listed on our schedule. Most questions will resemble the questions given on our quizzes.

The essays will be written outside of class. You will have one week to complete them, and they will be evaluated using the CSU Writing Guidelines.

Essay Format and Submission

You essay should follow the formating standards developed by the Modern Language Association (MLA). Along with other requirments, this means that everything you submit should be double spaced.

I stongly urge you to buy and use a recent writer's handbook that details MLA formatting standards. If you do not, you will lose points needlessly.

Citations: You should use in-text parenthetical citations to document all material that you take other sources, including our class texts. In addition, you should include full bibliographic information at the end of your document for any sources other than our class texts.

To be considered on time, you must complete the following before midnight on the date listed on our Schedule.

  1. Draft the essays in Microsoft Word or any other word processor that generates either .doc or .rtf files.
  2. On the first page, include your name, my name, "CMS 4800 " and the date at the top of the page, in keeping with MLA standards.
  3. Save this file as "YourLastName 4800 Exam 1."
  4. Send this file as an email attachment to me at <sspence@clayton.edu>. Include the name of your file in the message's subject line.
  5. Send the file by midnight on the deadline date. Late essays will be reduced one letter grade for each day that they are late.
